Meredith Kane

Health writer and editor

Meredith Kane is a health writer who covers what happens to women's bodies between 30 and 55, the stretch that most health publishing skips. She spent nine years writing and editing consumer health explainers before going independent, and she started Tommy & James after watching a run of friends get told their new joint pain, shortened cycles and 3am waking were unrelated coincidences. She is not a clinician and does not pretend to be one. Her job is to read the primary literature, the ACOG and NIH guidance and the STRAW+10 staging criteria, then write down what they actually say in words a tired person can use at 11pm. Every claim she publishes traces to a named source she has opened herself.

Background

  • Nine years writing and editing consumer health explainers before going independent
  • Reads and cites primary sources only: peer-reviewed literature, ACOG and NAMS clinical guidance, NIH and NIA material, and the STRAW+10 staging criteria
  • Not a physician, nurse, dietitian or therapist, and says so on every page
  • Re-reads and re-dates every guide on a fixed review cycle rather than leaving old advice standing
  • Takes no vendor sponsorship, no supplement partnerships and no telehealth referral fees

What she covers

The reproductive transition from the late 30s through the early 50s: perimenopause staging and symptoms, menstrual cycle mechanics, sleep and energy, iron and nutrient status, and strength training as the body's estrogen support falls away. She does not cover fertility treatment, pregnancy, or anything requiring individual diagnosis.
